Who We Are
The B-Less ministry model draws from, and continues to build upon, the experiences of B-Less’ Director, Dr Neil Martin, seeking to serve undergrads during his own time as a doctoral student in Oxford.
Noticing the impact that just one very ordinary graduate student could have on a whole cohort of undergraduates by focusing deliberately on interpersonal encouragement and support their efforts in evangelism, the Christian Union in Oxford and the donors who funded Neil’s doctoral research encouraged him to explore ways of replicating this experience by training and deploying multiple graduate students.
Dr Neil Martin
Neil Martin still serves as B-Less’ Director, alongside serving as an Elder and Associate Minister at Oxford Presbyterian Church. He is an Associate Faculty Member of the Oxford University Theology Faculty, regularly teaching and lecturing in New Testament studies, and is working on a research project focusing on Luke’s interaction with the Old Testament.
Matthew Roe
Matthew Roe works as B-Less’ part-time Charity Manager. He completed undergraduate and Masters’ degrees in History at Oxford University, writing his undergraduate thesis on OICCU in the 1960s and 1970s, and his Masters thesis on the role of Baptists in the popular campaign to abolish the slave trade. He also served as the Internal Vice-President of OICCU (2023-24), as a B-Less scholar during his Masters, and continues to support the Christian Union as a member of the Standing Committee. Alongside B-Less, he works in publications and continues to pursue research interests.
